Where Will You Fly Fish in Cape York?
At the northernmost tip of Australia; across the Torres Strait from Papua New Guinea lies one of the most
robust, varied and uncrowded saltwater fisheries in the world. Cape York.
Western Cape is a vast fishery with more than 100 miles of coastline that includes 11 rivers and river flats and
at its edge lies the Cape’s “Mecca” and your guides North Queensland lodge at Weipa.
This is a remote destination and requires an additional flight to the international flight to get you to Australia.
What Will Your Day Look Like?
The Cape York season covers the peak period from April through December.
With bespoke options available, all-inclusive trips typically run as 4 day/5 night, 5 day/6 night or 6 day/7 night programs.
Each day anglers fish a diversity of flats, river systems and creeks, returning to our own Fly Fishing Lodge to relax in comfort and immerse yourself in the Australian saltwater fly fishing scene.
Fishing is aboard the guides two American Made dedicated fiberglass skiffs with a 2 Angler : 1 Guide ratio.
For those seeking adventure, helicopter options and /or adventure camp options can be arranged to access more remote sections of the Cape.
Lunch is traditionally taken with you and dinners are either home cooked or pub style, with plenty of opportunities to experience the local seafood available.
It is not uncommon to encounter over 30 species over the course of a weeks’ fishing. Anglers can chase high- speed pelagics like Tuna and Mackerel close inshore, sight fish on the river mouth flats for trevally, queenfish, barramundi, giant herring or hit the reefs for coral trout, red bass and mangrove jacks.
And then there’s the flats fishing. The prized Indo-Pacific Permit, T.Anak, one of the “Big 4” permit species is
endemic to the area along with Blue Bastards and Black Spotted Tusk Fish, all providing an inviting flats

Prices are shown in Australian dollars (AUD), as the exchange rate fluctuates daily. The US Dollar is currently very strong against the AUD which means you will be paying less for your trip. The current exchange rate as at 2/16/2025 is 0.63 cents. You pay 63 cents for every $1 Australian.
